Certificate of Distinction

Virginia APCO is excited to announce our "Certificate of Distinction" program!

​

Packets can be submitted for consideration of 5 levels of distinction within Virginia. You can submit for one or all the categories that you meet requirements in.

​

VA APCO members meeting designations will be recognized at the Fall Conference during the APCO business meeting.

Requirements

​

  • Must be an APCO Chapter member (all membership categories)

  • Must have submitted a packet by September 1st for recognition in the current calendar year.

  • The packet must include copies of certificates demonstrating that they meet requirements.

  • The cover page must include the Supervisor/Manager/Director's acknowledgement that they meet the specific criteria.

  • Only recognized once for each of the categories.

Categories

Certificate of Distinction in Fire Dispatch (Must have 3 of the following)

  • APCO's Fire Service Communications ** (Required for this designation)

  • APCO's Fundamentals of Tactical Dispatch

  • APCO's Active Shooter

  • APCO's Disaster Operations

  • APCO's Surviving Stress

Certificate of Distinction in Police Dispatch (Must have 3 of the following)

  • APCO's Law Enforcement Communications ** (Required for this designation)

  • APCO's Crisis Negotiations

  • APCO's Fundamentals of Tactical Dispatch

  • APCO's Active Shooter

  • APCO's Surviving Stress

  • ​

Certificate of Distinction in Training (Must have 4 of the following)

  • APCO's Communications Training Officer** (Required for this designation)

  • APCO's Comprehensive Quality

  • APCO's Public Safety Telecommunicator Instructor

  • APCO's Fire Service Communications Instructor

  • APCO's Law Enforcement Communications Instructor

  • APCO's Communications Officer Training Instructor

Certificate of Distinction in Leadership (Must have 5 of the following)

  • APCO's Communications Center Supervisor ** (Required for this designation)

  • APCO's Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL)

  • APCO's Communications Training Officer

  • APCO's Bullying & Negativity

  • APCO's Customer Service

  • APCO's Staffing & Retention

  • APCO's Comprehensive Quality

Certificate of Distinction in 9-1-1 Communications (Must have 10 of the following)

  • APCO's Fire Service Communications ** (Required for this designation)

  • APCO's Law Enforcement Communications ** (Required for this designation)

  • APCO's Public Safety Telecommunicator ** (Required for this designation)

  • APCO's Communications Center Supervisor ** (Required for this designation)

  • APCO's Communications Training Officer** (Required for this designation)

  • APCO's Comm Center Manager

  • APCO's Bullying & Negativity

  • APCO's Crisis Negotiations

  • APCO's Cybersecurity Fundamentals

  • APCO's Comprehensive Quality

  • APCO's Fundamentals of Tactical Dispatch

  • APCO's Active Shooter

  • APCO's Disaster Operations

  • APCO's Surviving Stress

  • APCO's Staffing & Retention

  • APCO's Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL) ** (Must have either RPL or CPE)

  • APCO's Certified Public-Safety Executive (CPE)

(Note: Will accept the Instructor Certificate in any category in lieu of the basic certificate. APCO does not require you to maintain the basic if you are an instructor.
